Fishing a Waypoint
A common question at my classes is “Can I drive to a waypoint and find a small spot?” GPS accuracy is good but not good enough to sit on a 10 foot spot. I navigate to the waypoint and use my sonar to find the “spot”. If it is good spot and small there will always be information on the sonar why it is good. It may be a 1 foot drop, a harder bottom, a small brush pile and many other reasons. The picture is my boat sitting in one spot with the trail options set at 3 seconds update. The factory default is auto which will not give you this picture because you have to move to update the trail when using auto.

The trail example shows the position at multiple places of my boat tied to a dock. By looking at the trail you can be right on the spot or 30 feet off. I used the map cursor to show the distance from the boat (arrow cursor). Bottom line: for finding small spots, drive to the waypoint, find the exact spot with your sonar, throw a buoy, and catch the fish.
