Fixing
Zoom Problems
Sonar and GPS are the most
important tools to “Find the Fish, Fish the Fish, and Find Your
Way Back”. Struggling with the buttons and menus on the water
is very frustrating. When we are fishing we don’t have the patience
or the time to learn our electronics.
How many times have you struggled
with the Lowrance ZOOM button? You have a split screen on the display
showing GPS and sonar. You want to zoom in on the sonar but you keep
zooming in on the map. The next day you push the ZOOM button and it
works correctly. It is not gremlins at work but it is the PAGES button.
At first I worked around this problem by changing to the sonar only
screen, zooming in and then go back to the split screen. This was not
a good use of time.

Example 1 demonstrates the
map screen highlighted and example 2 demonstrates the sonar screen highlighted
on a Lowrance LCX-19. When a screen is highlighted the bar at the top
of the screen is dark blue as demonstrated by the arrows.

The split screens function
like windows on your computer. If you have more than one window opened
on your computer, the window that you are working in is highlighted.
The screen that is highlighted when you press the ZOOM button is the
screen that will zoom. The PAGES button changes which screen is highlighted.
If you press the pages button once, a pop-up box appears with choices
as demonstrated in example 3. You can make a selection and press exit
to get out of the pop-up box, or you can press the PAGES button again
and the highlighted screen changes from example 1 to example 2.

The key point is to quickly
push the PAGES button twice without making any changes in the PAGES
window if you want to highlight the other screen.
