JPEG Photos ...

My Lowrance LCX38 can now display jpeg photos on the screen. My first thought was “big deal how will this help catch fish?” My last tournament was at Oahe Reservoir which is 35-40 foot down and has risen 8 foot in one year. A friend took photos of rocks on shore and my “map guy” Warren Parsons created waypoints with the photos and his maps. I put the waypoints and photos in the 38 with the same names so when I got close to the waypoint I could view the photo and see what was under the boat.

Now get your handheld GPS during reservoir draw downs and walk to the fishing spots with a camera and a GPS. Match a waypoint with a photo and keep accurate records for the future. You can do the same as I did above.

Warren Parsons has maps of Oahe during low water that display in Fugawi which I see my boat on by using my boat computer (Panasonic CF-29) as a GPS.

I have a great idea for Warren’s maps for people without a boat computer (I only know of 10 with boat computers). But there are many that use Fugawi and you can create a waypoint on his maps, do a screen capture of the map, save it as a jpeg and use it like I did with the above photos. The following examples of Warren’s maps and can be displayed in your Lowrance with waypoints saved right on any point, hump or anything fishy looking.

This is much easier than printing the maps and bringing them in the boat.

In summary: get to work with your camera and GPS, name photos the same as the waypoints, drive to the waypoint, and view the real structure under the boat to “Catch More Fish”.
Or use Fugawi and Warren’s maps to create the waypoints and maps.
I think we can call this High Tech Fishing.
